Sugar Hill Arts District

Midtown Detroit, Inc.

Funding Received: 2011
Detroit, MI
$900,000
Funding Period: 1 year and 5 months

Midtown Detroit Inc. (MDI) and its partners are working to create the Sugar Hill Arts District in a promising section of Woodward Avenue in the heart of the city. MDI is developing a vacant 1915 Gothic Revival church that once housed Crossroads Soup Kitchen into a small performing arts center with two indoor small black box theaters, a restaurant/bar, and an outdoor stage for warmer weather performances and other installations.

MDI is currently refining its architectual drawings to ensure that we provide enough storage areas for all of these uses and is beginning to cost out the construction. In addtion, MDI is fundraising for the construction of the church as well as for the alley behind it that is a major thoroughfare for the businesses within this district.
