Since the Community Meeting in September, where multiple community members requested an alternate site location to be selected, the beʔis project staff joined forces with the Makah Enterprise Department to accomplish this project. Makah Enterprises were in the process of building a similar project, so merging the two projects into one was a logical choice.

Combining both projects will allow the beʔis structure to continuously grow over the years. We held another community dinner on November 20th and updated the community on our current process and refreshed the community on the project. They community expressed excitement and was pleased with the preliminary site development plans.

We also held another artist meeting, creating a group of artist that will complete carvings of the cedar poles, benches, etc. We are currently looking at our options for our materials. We gathered a good portion and are moving forward with our artistic details.  We also met up Makah Enterprises and discussed materials, dimensions and coast.  We will also be meeting with with Pomegranate, Via and Forterra in February to begin setting up our volunteering duties and schedules.

Additionally, the beʔis staff is busy securing artist contracts, as well as the interim narrative and budget reports that are due at the end of the year.

We sincerely hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
