The Village Longhouse Pavilion Project is moving right along. At the Steering Committee Meeting on July 22nd 2013 the Committee had a tough time determining the location due to a major issue, blocking our beautiful Waterfront view. The Committee came up with a few ideas on a new location, but was hesitate about moving away from our proposed winning location. The Committee agreed to come up with an Ad hock group to tackle down the project location. We held an Ad hock Meeting on July 25th 2013 and the group determined the location.

The Ad hock group decided to stay at the proposed location and also came up with a few ideas on where to place the Pavilion. Each idea has a chain of obstacles in the way. The Ad hock group decided to meet again on August 8th 2013 and take a trip to the location site to get a better look and feel of the ideas that were suggested. The Ad hock group measured the dimensions of the Longhouse Pavilion on the idea placements. The Group agreed that these are ideas to show to the Community. We will be doing a Community Dinner on September 23rd 2013 and will be presenting the Village Longhouse Pavilion to them and let them make the decision on the Projects placement. It is really important to us to have the Communities input. We want them to know that this Longhouse Pavilion is for them!

We also had a Community Artists Meeting on July 23rd 2013 and presented the Village Longhouse Pavilion Project to them. The Community Artists are very excited about the project and are happy to help in anyway they can. One artist has already showed us his ideas and shared the history of why we Makah’s did what we did, and would like to keep our history of art going.  We are scheduled to have another Community Artists Meeting on September 26th 2013.
