Lanesboro students marking their favorite components of concept plans for the Lanesboro Arts Campus.

Updates
On December 17, 2013, three concept plans for the Lanesboro Arts Campus were presented to the Lanesboro Public School District students. Our community planning and landscape architecture consultants, who have been working with Lanesboro Arts Center staff and lead project artists to create the concept ideas and renderings, gave students an overview of placemaking and discussed how public art can revitalize spaces in communities. Then each of the three concepts were presented in detail, and students were instructed to leave star stickers on what they liked and leave Post-It notes with comments and suggestions.

Recent Wins
A constant focus of our project is our partnership with the City of Lanesboro and the Lanesboro Area Chamber of Commerce. Lanesboro’s downtown business district has lost a few businesses this year, which leave a huge gap in a historic downtown that only spans two blocks. We are working with the Economic Development Authority to create new programs that will entice artists and entrepreneurs to start a business in Lanesboro. Recently, a portion of the old grocery store which shut down about 7 years ago and has been vacant ever since, was purchased and is currently in renovation to become a small gallery

Insight/Provocation
When we have to talk about our projects and programming on a daily basis, words can become hollow and visions can become blurred. It’s easy to get lost in the humdrum of planning meetings and sending e-mails, but it’s so important to step back from the work from time to time to examine it. This week, our staff is doing an informal, one-day retreat to remove ourselves from the office and look at our work with fresh eyes.
