ARTPLACE FIELD SCAN: CULTIVATING CREATIVITY: EXPLORING ARTS & CULTURE IN COMMUNITY FOOD SYSTEMS TRANSFORMATION
Published in May 2019, this field scan explores how ​arts and cultural practices ​can be better leveraged to create ​equitable ​and ​place-based food systems change​ across the country - spanning rural, tribal, and urban settings. The scan includes framing, cases studies, and recommendations to advance work happening at the intersection of arts and culture and food and agriculture, and to serve as a resource for practitioners.

A case study on a town suffering from the effects of jobs losses and outmigration that occurred when labor intensive farming transitioned to the machine. A theater project has led to purported claims of community revitalization, new relationships, personal empowerment; the coproduction of an emerging and diverse community identity; and institutional and economic development.

Rural Arts, Design, and Innovation in America

RURAL ARTS, DESIGN, AND INNOVATION IN AMERICA
This report stemmed from a research collaboration with the Economic Research Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It analyzes data from the Rural Establishment Innovation Survey to quantify relationships among arts organizations, design-integrated firms, and business innovators in rural settings.

Integrating Artists and City Planning

INTEGRATING ARTISTS AND CITY PLANNING
By integrating best stormwater management practices and replicating those at other sites, the Fargo project has modified city governance structures to have a less intrusive style of land management, educated community on the benefits of the ecological restoration practices, and explored the role of the artist to carry the vision of transformation.

POLICYLINK'S CREATING CHANGE THROUGH ARTS
Arts and culture are essential for building community, supporting development, nurturing health and well-being, and contributing to economic opportunity. This report highlights both promising and proven practices that demonstrate equity-focused arts and culture policies, strategies, and tools. The report describes the role of arts and culture across the nine sectors. Within each policy chart there are goals, policies, and implementation strategies that can help achieve communities of opportunity.

Our 2018 Annual ArtPlace Summit in Louisville, KY, gathered our community of colleagues from the field of creative placemaking – projects and organizations we have been able to support, our foundation and government partners, and the researchers, advisors, and colleagues who help shape our work. With Louisville as our cultural backdrop we heard from national and local leaders on some of the most pressing issues facing our field and our communities.
