Updates
The roof has been raised!

Helped by this eerily dry Seattle winter, the construction of 12th Avenue Arts is moving along quickly. The campaign slogan of “Raise the Roof” was made real as the roof actually went on this month.

Recent Wins
4Culture, the King County arts funding agency, has just announced a new $50,000 grant to 12th Avenue Arts. This is the fourth grant from 4Culture, and shows the amazing support of this development.

Insight/Provocation
Inequality is emerging as a major theme for 2014 in this city. Is there a role the arts can play in social justice and working for income equality?

Many of the artists and arts supporters at the Martin Luther King Day march certainly thought so. Marching shoulder to shoulder with those working for a $15 an hour minimum wage, workers’ rights and racial justice, it was inspiring to see the City of Seattle Office of Arts and Culture present.
