SOUND PLACES TOOLKIT

SOUND PLACES TOOLKIT
"Sound Places," CMA's pilot program, was initiated to provide a framework for ensembles to do this type of work. They are in the process of retooling their Residency Program to become a Creative Placemaking Program. Thus far, they have created the free toolkit for musicians who are curious about their communities, passionate about civic engagement, and interested in improving public spaces using their music as a catalyst for change but have not otherwise engaged in actual training or technical assistance.

THE ASSEMBLY: CIVIC DESIGN GUIDELINES
The Assembly Guidelines capture the culmination of four years of research and collaboration—with input from 200+ studies, 50+ cities, and dozens of expert advisors—to provide evidence-based design and maintenance strategies for creating cities where people trust each other, have confidence in local institutions, and actively work together to address local priorities.

ShelterForce: Artists as Organizers

SHELTERFORCE: ARTISTS AS ORGANIZERS
Like any tool, creative placemaking can be used to build something shaky (development done without regard to the community around it, which can lead to displacement and contribute to inequity) or to build something solid (through a process that represents the community in which it is based, includes broad input, and contributes to equitable development.) Most of us are interested in the solid option. But how do we ensure that what we’re building is solid?
