This report frames eight reasons to do creative placemaking and strategies for getting started. It also features case studies of how these strategies are being used by three community development organizations that are leading this practice in the field.



CREATIVE PLACEMAKING FROM THE COMMUNITY UP
Creative Placemaking from the Community Up brought together a national cohort of groups through a shared set of values including equity, racial justice, and self determination, and the overall goal of advancing social justice in our communities. Their approach to learning is from the community up, drawing on deep reservoirs of local experience and knowledge and making connections between our communities. They collected several resources including case studies, webinars, toolkits pertaining to their work on cross sector collaborations, peer exchanges and skill building workshops, participatory planning and cultural mapping, thematic convenings, and presentations at local and national conferences.

CREATIVE TRANSFORMATION: ARTS, CULTURE, AND PUBLIC HOUSING COMMUNITIES
To explore the role of arts and culture in transforming public housing communities, NOCD-NY convened a diverse range of residents for a roundtable in July 2015. Drawing on interviews carried out in the field, Creative Transformation: Arts, Culture and Public Housing Communities was designed to showcase exemplary partnerships that illustrated equitable, long-term approaches, identify barriers and challenges, develop recommendations and discuss how to move them into action, and more. 



CREATIVITY AND NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES FOR COMMUNITY INVESTMENT
In collaboration with the Social Impact of the Arts Project of the University of Pennsylvania (SIAP), this report has been examining the ways creative activity, specifically community-based arts and culture, can play a role in neighborhood revitalization and lays out steps for building an integrative vision of creativity and neighborhood revitalization.
