Status of the expansion of the facility
We are nearing completion of the construction drawings for the addition. We have a few more materials to make decisions on so the architect can get the project out to bid around March 1.

Volunteers have removed the barn board siding and the rusted metal roofing from the old loafing shed. It is stored for decorative use on the replacement building. It is great to have some progress visible from the highway. As of the writing of this blog, the lovely skeleton of the building remains, so we are holding a photo contest through Feb 27. There will be a cash prize for the winning photo and each entry will be on display during the June exhibit in the Hay Loft Hall.

The skeleton will come down on February 28 and the site will be completely cleared by March 10. Are we ever excited!

Recent Wins
1. We are happy to announce that a regional economic development association has set aside funding for infilling sidewalks from the south end of Uniontown to the north end where the Artisan Barn is located. This project will allow pedestrians in a new subdivision to walk safely along the highway all the way to the Barn site. Numerous children live in the subdivision, so this will enable more to participate in our art programs.

2. A Parks and Recreation Commission in a nearby small city has asked if the Barn can provide a tour and brief art project for 48 kids in July. What the Barn does is firmly on the regional radar.

3. Washington State University’s performing arts department has asked if the Barn will partner with them for their second annual Humanitas Worldwide Music festival in the fall. Last fall an African band played at the Barn and the local school children were bussed over. Another nearby school district had no school that day so many parents brought their kids to the Barn for the performance.

4. A member of our board wrote an unsolicited personal check to help cover expenses for a second person to attend the LA convention. We were overwhelmed with her generosity.

5. A wonderful bakery and restaurant in Uniontown has expanded its open days to include Thursday, so we have a better overlap. Gives folks another reason to visit Uniontown and the Barn that day of the week.
