Designing video games to be played in public space versus a private living room requires a different design framework. We have defined the street arcade's ultimate outcome as connecting people to new friends on the street. This goal will be our guide as we establish the story, aesthetics and game mechanics. Great design begins with great questions. The first task in the development has been to ask ourselves relevant questions that define the problems that will be solved to make our project a success. These questions, focused on environmental and human factors, will produce the insights into how we will design the street arcade.

INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE NEW ECONOMY: As communities create strategies to stay competitive in the New Economy, which is based around innovation and exports, we have to question how will our public spaces be designed to support this new reality. Its no coincidence that the most innovative and successful companies say the secret to producing great work is play. Studies continually show that play stimulates creativity and even builds trust between strangers. Workplaces are being designed to incorporate these findings to stay competitive. Organizations are investing in establishing a playful company culture as a way to grow business innovation. But why do we have to confine this activity to office space reserved for only the people who work there? By integrating video games into public space in a way that encourages play, we create an opportunity to increase cross-sector connections and contribute to building a creative community; both important characteristics of the New Economy.
