Update and Reflection

CoSign hosted 2 workshops at The American Sign Museum for artists interested in participating in the project this fall.  We had 114 artists and designers attend hoping to get involved with the initiative.   The artists and designers visited the Northside community and met with business owners to develop designs that captured the businesses’ brand identity.  Artists submitted their final design last week and business owners are reviewing their submittals and are in the process of choosing one design to move forward in the process.    One change we made to the process this year was to send an independent designer to each business to review their design submittals.  We had received feedback last year that many of the business owner would have appreciated an objective designer to walk through design principles in discussing the submissions.

Recent Wins

  • CoSign had 114 interested artists attend a workshop to learn more
  • The CoSign Project received over 250 design submission by 62 artists, a 58% increase from last year
  • Covington, the next CoSign destination, received a $50,000 Our Town Grant to support the project

Insight/Provocation

This round of CoSign saw a 58% increase in the number of designs submitted.  We believe that is in part to the engagement of the Artist Community.  CoSign particularly worked to engage artists local to the community of Northside as well as artists in Covington, the next CoSign community.  Part of the goal of CoSign is to educate artists and designers in sign-making and fabrication so we will continue to explore ways to consistently engage new artists.
