Small scale projects spur creative interventions

Thanks to ArtPlace funding, two small-scale ArtPlace projects were also made possible - #YarnBombCLT and Art Bikes.  Building on the momentum of these two projects, guerilla art interventions have been popping up all over the trail.

For #YarnBombCLT three local fiber artists — Kia Jones, Amy Reader and Sydney Sogol — yarn-bombed the Rail Trail in two locations. Their designs are inspired by the local textile history of the Rail Trail neighborhood and the movements of nearby trains, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Art Bikes emerged in an effort to provide a unique & unexpected cycling activity on the Rail Trail. Charlotte Center City Partners collaborated with the Spoke Easy/Cluck Design Group to redesign two Surrey bicycles. The design team added one-of-a-kind art to the bikes which are available for free rides along the Rail Trail. The program is administered by Queen City Bicycles.  Thanks to ArtPlace America, this project is a hit!
