Murals on the Rail Trail

Charlotte's Rail Trail is a vibrant public trail that winds through the very heart of our city, where the unexpected can be found around every bend. The 4.5 mile trail, which runs parallel to the Lynx Blue Line, connects communities and knits together neighborhoods from Sedgefield, Southside Park, Brookhill, Dilworth, Wilmore and South End to Uptown, but it belongs to everyone in the Queen City. The Rail Trail is the place to discover public art, cafés and bars, explore galleries, see artists at work, stumble upon an impromptu concert, stroll with your family, or relax on a bench and watch the city come alive around you. With the continued help of passionate supporters, the trail is constantly transforming into a network of gardens, public art, unique spaces and activities, and an endless string of places to sit, eat and play.

Thanks to the support of ArtPlace funds many projects on the Rail Trail are being made possible.  In May 2016, three 100-foot murals will be painted on the trail with the help of community volunteers. In March 2016, mural artist-duo Jessie and Katey visited Charlotte for a series of hands-on community workshops to gather input to design these murals. Local students, working professionals, young families, and Rail Trail advocates alike had the opportunity to create designs that will inform the final mural concepts.  Read more about these workshops here.
