Charlotte's Rail Trail is a unique urban experience--a "linear commons" where neighbors and visitors can meet and explore a dynamic and evolving platform for creativity, economy, and recreation. The 4-mile trail winds through the heart of Charlotte, NC's downtown business district and connects 10 neighborhoods.

Charlotte City Center Partners engaged the public artist team of Studio Wowhaus to develop and implement an arts master plan for the trail that creates a "third space" to connect community, commerce, and culture. This project grows out of Charlotte’s Center City 2020 Vision Plan, which identified parks, open space, and recreation, along with placemaking and urban design, as key for future development. The Rail Trail will be a lively and unique destination.
