Call for Entries Closes, Proposals from Detroit and Around the World
REVOLVE Detroit’s call for entries for artists and entrepreneurs closed July 8th and received a huge response locally and internationally. Over ninety proposals came in from Detroit, France, Bucharest, Baltimore, New York, and more. The Community Review Panel is a crucial part of the project’s progression, ensuring the artistic and business excellence and keeping community needs at the forefront. The panel contains an outstanding variety of community leaders that really want to see Livernois, the historic Avenue of Fashion, flourish long-term. Some members of the panel include Charles McGee; a prominent Detroit artist, Rufus Bartell; long-time boutique owner on the Ave, and Kim Tandy; Program Manager of University Commons Organization, the local community development corporation.
Proposal Gallery to Open for Feedback from Residents
A gallery featuring the project finalists will be set up and on display July 25th at the Livernois Community Storefront, a neighborhood hub created for the project. The gallery will provide a venue for community feedback on the proposals, where residents will share what they would like to see from artists and entrepreneurs in the neighborhood. Project participants will be announced the week of July 29th. Following final selections, working sessions will take place with building owners, artists, and entrepreneurs to ensure a successful execution of the project. Also demolition and preparation of the spaces has already been happening.
Art in August
August marks the execution of art installations and annual community event, Jazz on the Ave on August 3rd. This event highlights existing business owners and acts as a way for the community to stay connected to one another and the area’s rich cultural heritage. REVOLVE is also looking forward to being a part of the Detroit Design Festival this year headed for Livernois on September 20. The planning process for these events is in full swing.
